In The Tycoon’s Debt

In The Tycoon's DebtTheir marriage had never been consummated; the bride’s powerful father had seen to that. And after being driven out of town, groom Quinn McCain vowed to forget Evie Montgomery. Then the woman he’d once married arrived at his office, begging the CEO for money. How the tables had turned…

Evie’s choice to sign the annulment papers had scarred Quinn to the core. Yet now he had the upper hand. In exchange for his help, Quinn desired the one thing he’d long been denied. And this time, he vowed love would play no part in their bargain!

I knew I wanted to tell Quinn McCain’s story from the moment he walked on stage in Baby on the Billionaire’s Doorstep. I’ve always been a sucker for Warrior archetype heroes and Quinn is no different. The strong quiet type, he’s a man who knows his own heart and sees right through people to their most vulnerable secrets. But I knew there were parts of his own past he kept hidden away, even from himself.

Evie was a little harder for me to pin down. I didn’t really get her until I started writing the book. As soon as she appeared on screen, I knew that I wanted her to be a different kind of heroine. Even though she was his love–a rich girl to his bad boy–I quickly realized I needed more from her. I’d done the rich girl/bad boy dynamic before and so had many other people. It’s a fantastic type of story and speaks to a lot of people, but it just didn’t feel right for them. Then it occurred to me, maybe he’s not the rebel. Maybe she is.

The story really started to pop then. Her teenage rebellions against her rich and powerful father became a crucial element in the story.

There’s another element to the story as well … the diamond heist. Okay, so I write short romances. There’s not a whole lot of room for crime, but the caper was a fun and challenging addition to the story.

Fun Fact: When I was a teacher a gazzilion years ago. I had a student named Quinton McCain. It’s such a great name, I filed it away, just waiting for the right hero to use it for. (Legal disclaimer: this Quinton McCain is in no way based on the boy I knew. That would just be creepy. Too, too creepy!)

He appeared in scenes in both Baby on the Billionaire’s Doorstep and Baby Benefits that ended up getting cut. Some day, I’ll dust them off and post them here. So if you love Quinn as much as I do, check back in the next month or so to look for them.
